Effect of Urban Built-Up Area Expansion on the Urban Heat Islands in Different Seasons in 34 Metropolitan Regions across China

چکیده

The urban heat island (UHI) refers to the land surface temperature (LST) difference between areas and their undeveloped or underdeveloped surroundings. It is a measure of thermal influence built-up area expansion (UBAE), topic that has been extensively studied. However, impact UBAE on LST differences rural (UHIU−R) emerging (UHIU−S) in different seasons seldom investigated. Here, UHIU−S UHIU−R 34 major metropolitan regions across China, spatiotemporal variations based long-term space-borne observations during period 2001–2020 were analyzed. quantified by landscape metrics 2020 2000 UHI was further impacted level economic development topography. cities located more developed significant than less regions. Coastal experienced most obvious UBAE, followed plain hilly cities. mountainous weakest. On an annual basis, larger UHIU−S, decreasing slowly with UHIU−S. In seasons, larger, clearly varying temporally summer winter, temporal significantly correlated but not winter. seasonal Both coastal lowest summer, fastest while those mountain decreased slowest. change density lands primary driver affecting changes proportion shape, speed smallest, all which can reduce UHI. These findings provide new perspective for deeper understanding effect seasons.

Monitoring the Built-up Area Transformation Using Urban Index and Normalized Difference Built-up Index Analysis

Makassar is one of the metropolitan cities located in Indonesia which recently experiences massive an increased construction because of population growth. Mapping the spatial distribution and development of the built-up region is the best method that can use as an indicator to set the urban planning policy. The purpose of this study is to identify changes in land use and density in Makassar Cit...

Changes in Wind Speed under Heat Waves Enhance Urban Heat Islands in the Beijing Metropolitan Area

The interaction between urban heat islands (UHIs) and heat waves (HWs) is studied using measurements collected at two towers in the Beijing, China, metropolitan area and an analytical model. Measurements show that 1) the positive interaction betweenUHIs andHWs not only exists at the surface but also persists to higher levels (up to ;70m) and 2) the urban wind speed is enhanced by HWs during day...

the effect of e-64 on the developmental competence of sheep cocs during in vitro maturation

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.

Urban heat island effect on cicada densities in metropolitan Seoul

Background Urban heat island (UHI) effect, the ubiquitous consequence of urbanization, is considered to play a major role in population expansion of numerous insects. Cryptotympana atrata and Hyalessa fuscata are the most abundant cicada species in the Korean Peninsula, where their population densities are higher in urban than in rural areas. We predicted a positive relationship between the UHI...
